Bought to catch a rat. The trap and other types failed to entice him but the trap is a good design Note you need clearance above the trap for the mechanism to flip over. So not suitable for under low cupboards etc. It’s sturdy, humane and if did entice him he wouldn’t get out Very easy to use

Why did you choose this product over others?: Not humane for squirrels. Far too small. Squirrel was able to really hurt himself in this trap. He removed most of the skin off the top of his head on the metal work inside. NOT SAFE. I did not want to hurt the squirrels, just relocate. Awful awful experience. REMOVE SQUIRREL FROM YOUR AD TITLE. VERY UNHAPPY

This is a solid, well-built trap — much better quality than many others I’ve tried. It comes with clear instructions printed on the cardboard packaging, and it’s easy to set up. The key is to place it in the right spot. I use a trail cam and a mini cam to see where the animals usually go in the garden, then set the trap along their regular path. If you have hedgehogs around, it's a good idea to elevate the trap off the ground to keep them safe. I tied mine down to a concrete block so it stays in place — that way, curious animals won't knock it over or trigger it by accident. The trigger is very sensitive, so be sure to place the trap in a sheltered spot to avoid it going off in the wind. As with most traps, you might need to make small tweaks — nothing major. If you're new to using cage traps, I recommend watching a few tutorial videos first. That will help you avoid the minor issues some people mention. One small tip: make sure everything is properly aligned and secured before setting it, or the mechanism might snag. If that happens, a quick adjustment with pliers should fix it. Overall, this is a great humane trap for relocating animals. Recommended.

The cage itself works I can testify to this so far I've caught a hedgehog and a grass snake but alas no rats. I'm pleased to report both hedgehog and grass snake where released unharmed back into their natural habitat. This is why I always advocate using this type of trap instead of poison or kill traps as unfortunately poison and kill traps sometimes make the creatures suffer terribly and also can kill protected species and not the intended target. Yes it's a little more inconvenient to release the rodent somewhere else but they are living creatures who are we to decide if they Live or die
