Every time I’ve set it, the rat has removed the bait. And the trap has gone off!! Even wired bacon on to the plate, still bait gone and the trap had gone off!! Should have used a professional to do the job as opposed to wasting money on 2 traps

We gained a rats nest in our garden when neighbours flushed them out of their property. Unfortunately there were young ones who were quickly maturing. We were worried about harming other wildlife as we have a hedgehogs and birds regularly visiting the garden and other targeted methods failed to work so we resorted to traps. The first ones which we bought were more the standard old fashioned types which rarely caught the rats or if they did they would maim rather than kill. These traps were more effective as the rats had to get far enough into the box to reach the food which limited the options to avoid the trap itself.

Put traps out yesterday, u fortunately the foxes stole one, and cut the red cord on the other. Ordered 2 more which came today, this time I placed a number of heavy rocks on top to stop the foxes from getting to them and to disguise them from the rat in case they recognised them. Used some old dog kibble, and traps set by 1pm. Checked around 4pm and one dead rat was half visible. Easy to simply drop into wheelie bin. My guess is positioning is key, use any cameras to observe where the rat tends to explore, put a little food outside the hole, and possibly cover the trap

I got a box of two traps. One of them facilitated a cosy box for a rat to chow down and clean the bait bucket completely, numerous times. The other I got was utterly useless because the kill bar gets stuck against the roof of the box. Terrible
