It is unfortunate that the rat came to live in our garden. It was the worst decision of her life. I have never had any real desire to kill anything, but I knew that the rat, having now discovered a reliable source of food in the generous provision we lay out for lovely little birdies, would not simply give up no matter how many times she was chased away. Every time I looked out the back door, there she was hopping and darting about to and fro, gobbling up all manner of seeds and nuts out of feeders no matter where we moved them to. To her credit, she did once eat a snail. Nevertheless, I was resolved that she would die. I tried a plastic trap shaped a bit like a tin of Spam with shark jaws at one end. She had no trouble eating the bait without releasing the spring. I tried a £1 trap from one of those shops on the market street which sell ugly buckets and granny trolleys and cheap bleach and the like. The rat ate the bait, the spring was released, the rat never got caught. The kill bar just wasn't sprung very powerfully. I tried modifying it a few times to increase its deadliness but the rat just kept eating the bait in such a way that the trap was released without killing the rat. So I thought I'd better get one of the good old Victor traps of lore. It arrived the next day. It's big. It makes an impression. The spring is VERY strong. When this trap snaps shut it makes a loud bang. I now felt I had the means of efficient ratty death in my hands. There was a lot of rain at the time, so I put the trap in a bucket on its side, so the bait wouldn't be washed off, with the bait end nearest the opening. Having watched the video, I was careful to set the trap with the trigger on the most sensitive setting. All I can say is that if I wanted a dead rat I got one. This was a good sized rat - eight inches from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail and surprisingly weighty - and the trap definitely killed her. I think she may have been on a short leave of absence for a few days before she met her maker because we didn't see her for a little while - and yet there was the trap, still set. I experienced a ghoulish feeling of disappointment that some other rat trap or poison had killed her before I got the chance to. This was an odd emotion because, as mentioned, I had never really wanted to kill anything. The hunting instinct had evidently been awakened in me though. Then, one night, in the wee ratty hours, we heard a snap. I went out the next morning and discovered the grisly scene (see attached). The traps can be reused very easily, though if you have a huge infestation and are killing hundreds of rats, I believe the trap would gradually lose some of its killing power as the mechanics would loosen up a bit over time. Thankfully this rat seemed to have operated alone as there have been no other rats in our garden since her death. Next time I have a rat to kill, this is the trap I'll go straight to, rather than the other ones I tried. Rat, o rat, We have no cat. You ate our seeds, And slept in weeds. And now you're dead, Whacked on the head.

The mechanism is simple to operate although I learnt the usage from YouTube. Managed to trap and kill a massive RAT with it. This is going to be very useful as it can catch any size of rodent.

Seems to be working as intended. Although I found two of them triggered in the morning with no catch in them. Although without camera footage I cant really say if these went off on their own or if the rats have done it. The bait was gone though.

Old school method proves to be the most effective way of getting rid of your unwanted garden guests. Caught it on day 1, managed to get out of the trap which wasn’t really surprising considering the size of it!!! but it’s gone! I have my garden back 😂

Well, I wrote a detailed review about this product but got flagged by Amazon for either Profanity, Harassment, Hate speech, sexual content, illegal activity or private information. The review contained non of these so I can only assume a very poorly written algorithm deciding what's acceptable or not. So, instead of a detailed review explaining the issues, simply, this trap is complete rubbish. Don't waste your money

As you can imagine, when laying in bed gazing out of the bungalow window, I am met by a pair of beady eyes staring at me. Personally, I actually don't mind my friend "Ratty", but the missus was horrified and demanded she had to go! So I bought this cheap but effective trap. Needless to say I miss deeply the wordless exchanges I used to share with my furry friend, as communication is a sticking point when your head has been smashed by a giant metal bar! On a plus note, it's does exactly as described!
