It arrived yesterday - brilliant delivery from Amazon, arrived the day after ordering by standard first class post (just click 'buy it now'). Set it last night. Big rat in it this morning - I am totally freaked out! Ok - so - it says on the instructions, put peanut butter in one of the lower holes on the back with a wood or plastic knife (so you don't electrocute yourself) - even if it is turned off it still holds some charge. We didn't have any peanut butter, and in my experience of mouse traps - chocolate works every time - so melted some chocolate (hint - don't try to melt chocolate in the microwave - it burned!) - second attempt - melted chocolate in pan, let it get a bit thick again, then used plastic star-shaped cookie cutter to daub some inside hole and a bit on the outside, set trap and went to bed after cleaning up every scrap of crumbs and food from the room. Put it against skirting board near where we knew activity had been. (Hint - it won't fit under a radiator and needs to be right up against skirting board) This morning - a tail sticking out and a big rat. So I was going to just pick it up and empty it in the bin, but couldn't and freaked out. Partner had already gone to work, so neighbour came and did it for me. Now need to re-set it again. I want to move out! So how did we know we had a rat. Well - something has stolen 3 apples and a kiwi fruit from the bowl on the dining room table over the last two days and taken them behind the sofa where they have been half eaten - either an awful lot of mice or something bigger. Also something has been playing football with the sealed mouse traps we have put down. So sent for this, based on the good reviews and the fact it works for mice and rats - and sure enough it is a rat. And as neighbour said, there will be a Mum or Dad rat still to catch, plus the babies. We have found a hole in the wood floor where the radiator pipes go down and one in the skirting board in corner of room, so will block those up when we have caught everything. Catching mice isn't pleasant - but rats - aargh! And just when I had a really important busy week and needed to keep focused. Anyway the good news is - this works - well done to manufacturers. Do be careful handling it - it says it is for professional use and don't ever put your hand inside it or touch any of the metal parts, even when it is switched off. Read instructions on side of box carefully before using it. My sympathy goes out to anyone else who is having to sit in their living room every night, thinking about having to clean up every crumb and set this thing before going to bed every night. We live in an old house in a rural area near the river, so rats and mice do occasionally get in - oh the joys of the countryside.

No good for rats. I caught a few mice, but after use under a cover (lean-to) outside it deteriorates and gets dirty and as others have mentioned I find slugs like peanut the butter and any chocolate you use, so they tend to eat it. Obviously you can use other bait but no rats were caught which is what I wanted it for. In the end they stopped working altogether, so I just had to ditch them.(I tried 2) The best trap for rats I have used is a cage trap for rats. Cover it up so its protected from the top and make the entrance smaller so that only rats can get in. If a mouse sets it off, usually they escape. Im finding rats are less willing to enter the bait enclosures, but a cage trap will , importantly, still have the feel of the ground under it. good luck

I admit I used this product outside (in garden but under a cover). Until it arrived I had not realised it is meant to be for indoor use. Well it worked once really well. Killed a rat within a few hours. However, since then although the lights indicate it is still working the peanut butter disappears but no dead rats. My conclusion is, for outside use, this is an effective but expensive one shot rat killer. One further note: the battery insertion into the compartment was an extremely tight fit, but other than that was an easy set up.

Since our cat died we've seen a few mice around our patio which didn't worry us but then saw a large rat which did. Searched the web and found this electronic device and decided to try it. Don't be fooled by the Proctor name -it's a cheaply made Chinese product supplied with inadequate information. I bought a cheap, tall, square plastic waste bin about 24"high by 12" square, turned it on its side and covered its open end with a plastic sheet to prevent rain entering it. Laid smelly mature cheese as bait on the 2nd and 3rd killing plates of the rat trap and placed it inside the waste bin laid on its side. Switched on and left it outside on the patio. Within 1 hour the 1st mouse was dead, and over the next 10 days killed another 12 mice. Unfortunately, the rat(s) has not yet fallen for it but I still have high hopes for eventually getting it/them. Today found the bait had disappeared and no dead vermin so assume the batteries need replacement. Will probably buy 4 high capacity AA-size rechargeable batteries and use them with C-type battery convertors to keep running costs down. Only problem is that rechargeable batteries have lower voltage (1.2v) compared with alkaline batteries (1.5v) so that the electrocuting charge will be lower and may be insufficient to kill a rat. A really useful accessory would be an ac power supply unit with a 6v dc output so you can run it off the mains and thereby save lots of money compared with using batteries. This device really does work and as long as you protect it from the elements it can be used out-of-doors. Would recommend trying it and experimenting with different baits. Make sure you keep the unit dry and clean so that moisture/detritus doesn't accumulate and short circuit the killing plates. One star deducted for Proctor failing to provide any meaningful info about how this trap works and how to maintain it. Proctor's website similarly useless.

never buy this product - don't waste your $70 on this. Why? - The return policy is valid for 30 days, how someone can test it if there is no mouse in house for first 30 days and later you see one and set this solution to kill it, and you find that it does not work; but you can not return because it passed 30 days. You wasted $60 for the product and $10 for 4 C type batteries. I lost $70 and looking for alternate solution now.
