The media could not be loaded. It's big and strong, relatively easy to set once you figure it out. Worked first time. I set it and left it overnight. I used brie cheese and covered trap with old rag. Best to place bait THEN set trap. I released Ratty far from habitation. Everyone happy. 2 weeks later and no luck. Patience required. Rats are clever but curious so I set the traps to not catch and left food wrapped in paper. After 3 days of food untouched I found one parcel had gone so I reset to 'catch'... and BINGO. I let this one go in the woods. It's not easy to open the door when you are afraid of being bitten and this young rat was feisty. After a lot of fiddling I succeeded but I need to practice that a bit.

Unfortunately rats are clever! We've caught several birds and a squirrel but no rat. The trap gets jammed after a few uses so have only given it 3*. The pressed steel plates for the runners distort and open up under use and the door no longer slides freely. I have had to drill a hole on both sides of the pressed steel runners and inserted and tightened nuts and bolts in order to keep the gate runners running straight and true for the cage door to operate - see photo I also added some PTFE tubing on the door lug slide mechanism inside the runners. Since doing these modifications the door works flawlessly, however I have yet to catch a rat.

On first inspection I thought these traps looked great, however, one wouldn't set, it was too sensitive and the other one set once, but as I walked away it triggered, everytime it's set it triggers within minutes. They are very sturdy, but the mechanism is far too sensitive.

A pretty good trap though you do need to set it in a certain way otherwise it'll snap shut too quickly. Still, there's a lot to like about this trap. It's well made from metal and feels very durable. It's a humane trap so doesn't cause lasting harm to the animals you catch in this and it's easy to release them again too (though tip you do need to release them some way distance from your house otherwise they'll just find their way back again). It's easy enough to bate the trap, even for people not used to using these. The trigger plate is effective enough and very fast meaning the rodent etc won't be able to get out. It can be a little bit fiddly when setting the trap and you do need to put this on the ground where you want to catch the rat/squirrel etc as I found that setting the trap on a table and then moving it to where you want it to rest causes the door of the trap to snap shut as the cage jiggles around and you end up having to reset it. It's fine as long as you just set it up where you want it to go however. It just involves a bit of bending over. This is a good humane trap, it has plenty of space inside and is suitable for a variety of critters. It doesn't have detailed instructions but it is pretty intuitive (and you need to remember to remove the cable ties keeping the product details on otherwise you won't be able to set the trap at all). Recommended.
